Today we set off to the city of Avalon in a car ride that was unexpectedly bumpy
because the only road is winding and unpaved.  The city of Avalon was
breathtaking with streets lined with colorful houses, small cars and golf carts.
As we walked down the streets we made our way over to the pier and embarked on
small pedal boats.  Sabyn and I took off laughing as we created our own
racecourse, slowly pedaling around buoys like a car weaving in and out of
caution cones.   Then after finishing the course we started playing bumper
boats! Personally I think we were the best at it.  After a fun filled day, we
drove back to the Wriggly Institute and swam in Big Fisherman's Cove.

Our team started our journey to Catalina. When we finally reached the
island at a little after 9 am we settled into our dorm rooms and changed for our
first snorkel on the island at Big Fisherman Cove. We got to see first hand the
beauty that the ocean holds. We saw Leopard Sharks, Bat Rays, Garibaldi, many
forms of algae and more. My favorite part of the day was when we went on a short
hike and were able to view the entire harbor. We spent the hike finding images
in the cacti and taking in the orange shades of light that the sunset cast a
spell of wonder over the entire island.

Tomorrow morning I will be leaving at 4:45 to go to Catalina Island for a week.  I am so excited, this will be a monumental learning experience for both my QuikSCience team and myself.  I just can't wait to go snorkeling and to visit the labs.  Unfortunately I will not likely be posting blogs during this trip, sorry.  Have a great week and I'll be posting again soon

  • Over the past week I have been working very hard at every task assigned to me.  But it's hard, the work I am doing is different from class work.  Thankfully, I don't have homework after my 10 hour work day.  It's interesting to see how school relates to the workplace.  For the past few days I have been searching through websites, most of which are not in english, to find my companies product and to understand how it is displayed on each medical site.  It is really tough, when you don't know the language you just kinda click links and hope you'll stumble on it.  But when I was looking at Spanish websites I recognized several words from Señiora P's class. Ojos, that is the most valuable word to know in spanish when your looking for laser eye surgery.  What also was interesting to me was how many countries use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  Many sites, in every language use these to reach out to patients and it's fascinating to see the large fallowing that they receive.  I mean, honestly, I would go as far as subscribe to an eye surgeon (I would like his or her page but thats it).  Yet thousands of people are excited and thrill

I'm concerned about dress code, I see people in Business wear to jeans and I'm not sure what I should wear.  I have been learning about how to write scientific posters, and scientific abstracts just like for QS.  The company's "Mission statement" is about improving daily life for people who struggle with being farsighted over 45.  I am learning how to use PC interfaces like Power Point, Excel, and Word.

    • What strikes you most about your workplace?
It is VERY quiet.  Everyone is on task, most of the time, and hardworking.
    • What strikes you most about your colleagues? (remember this is a publicly visible blog)
They are really understanding and nice.  They understand that you can't be perfect.
    • What strikes you most about the job you're doing?
There is a lot of work organizing folders and shipments, similar to when Sabyn and I were collecting materials to be given to USC for QuikSCience.  You have to have a specific number of everything and have to make sure everything is there for the surgeons you are sending it to.
    • What are you excited about?
I'm excited to help with the European Conference and to share my ideas about this years both layout.
    • What are you worried about?
I am not fluent in PC computers and I fear this will hinder my ability to
