We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. - Walt Disney

As an intern I developed new appreciation for many things.  One thing I found new appreciation for was healthy energy snacks, at school you can't get fired for feeling tired during a class.  I also discovered a new appreciation for Google Chrome because much of my work was searching websites that were in other languages.  Google Chrome however translates the page for you instead of manually imputing the information into a translator.  Most of all, I have a new appreciation for assistants and office managers.  Their work is endless and they get little credit.  So thank you to all the assistants and office managers out their who are under appreciated.

How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern?
During internship I learned that during life you need to keep moving forward.  Everyday you learn something new,  and what you learn needs to be used to your advantage.  For example, today I learned how to print from any computer at my work.  Everyday that I work at Acufocus I will now be able to print reports that I work on.  What I have also learned is that you need to take a step away from work when I can't focus any longer.  Taking a break from stressful situations and work can help you focus and help your health.

What new questions has your internship inspired you to ask about our world? What has itWhat are you moved to go out and do or learn about on your own time?

How might internship influence the direction of your life?

How did interpersonal relationships and/or collaboration at work influence you
understanding of life outside of high school?

My work as an intern was has great meaning to my education.  Over the two weeks that I have been working at Acufocus I have learned how to be productive and adapt to a typical office environment.  I walked into work knowing little of how to use a PC.  By day two of my internship I learned how to use Word, Excel, Snipping Tool, and much more.  I also learned that interns and new employees must be able to adapt to copying machines and different technologies used in the work place.  Most of all, Acufocus has taught me to be organized in everything that I do.  In order to be effective organization is key, you have to itemize what is most important and have a system to each task.  After my internship experience I am confident that I will be able to adapt to a work place.

My contribution to the workplace was meaningful because every task I was given I completed to the best of
my ability.  I did more than was asked of me in a short amount of time whether it be Social Media observation, invoices, or making and packaging marketing/sale orders.  I believe that I helped multiple departments implement simple organizational strategies that they will

Today set off on a long kayaking trip. We kayaked all the way to Blue Cavern,
where Sabyn and I kayaked through a cavern that reminded me of Pirates of the
Caribbean. Then we kayaked over to bird rock, where we surveyed the little
island for bird populations. Returning to Wrigley, we met the new arrivals and
went snorkeling. It was a tiring but interesting day.

Honestly, internship has been extremely helpful by introducing me into a work environment.  However, it has also made me uncertain about my college future.  My trip to Catalina highlighted how much I love science, biology and learning.  But I like marketing, and engineering as well.  I can't complain though, because these internship weeks have helped me find what I love.  Now I just need to find a career that fits bio, business, engineering, and learning (just no dead animals, ESPECIALLY FISH).

Today we kayaked from Big Fisherman's Cove to the end of Two Harbor. On
our way we broke into a "battle of the boats" and everyone became drenched in
seawater. After we returned from our 2 hour kayak, our team jumped into the
frigid water and Shaida and I were called crazy when we went in without our
wetsuits.. I found Navanax, which we picked up. The Sea Slug felt soft and its
skin was colorful. The Navanax was so beautiful I am so happy I spotted it,
because it made my day.

Self-advocacy is a much needed trait to have in all aspects of life.  Whether at school, work or your personal life talking about your feelings, understandings and ability helps you to grow your strengths.  Students, like myself, talk to their teachers and mentors when they have questions or for more opportunities.   High Tech High has over the years taught me to seek out help when I need it and challenges when isn't enough.  In fact, if I hadn't of self-advocated and asked Mr. Leader to place me as the QuikSCience team manager I would not have had the position.

What's also interesting is on my 3rd or 4th day of work here I had finished my projects and I had no incoming work.  Someone from the company asked me how work was going and I honestly told them "I finished all the marketing work and I don't really have projects to do".  Well he brought me project, after project, after project.  Since then I have been asking people in every department if they have work for me to get done.  This experience has helped me meet new people and be more comfortable asking for more work.
